If your favourite websites, apps or services stopped working today, don’t worry — it wasn’t just you.
A big part of the internet had problems for a few hours, and lots of well-known sites were affected.
Here’s a simple explanation of what actually happened.
So… what went wrong?
A company called Cloudflare had an issue today.
You may not have heard of them, but they help keep thousands of websites running smoothly.
When Cloudflare has a problem, many sites around the world feel it.
Today:
- Websites stopped loading
- Apps couldn’t connect
- Some services were completely down
- People saw error messages they’d never seen before
The cause was a technical mistake inside Cloudflare’s systems, not a hack or cyber attack.
They fixed it, and things slowly started working again.
Why did this affect so many people?
Because a huge number of websites rely on Cloudflare behind the scenes — even ones you wouldn’t expect.
So when Cloudflare breaks, lots of things online break at the same time.
Think of it like a major road being closed:
Even if you weren’t driving on that road, the traffic jam affects everything around it.
Did you do anything wrong?
No.
There was nothing wrong with your phone, laptop, Wi-Fi or internet provider.
Even restarting things wouldn’t have helped in this case.
What should you do next?
Not much — everything should be returning to normal now.
If something still isn’t loading:
- Give it a little time
- Try again later
- Avoid changing settings or reinstalling things
The outage came from outside your home, so there’s nothing you need to fix.
